Mission GO1:8: A Regional Expansion Plan for the Ministry in Uganda

The Code name “Mission GO1:8” is derived from two passages of Scriptures namely Matthew 28:19 (Go) and Acts 1:8 (1:8) with the rallying call to all to Go and make disciples of Christ everywhere – but specifically to Uganda in all regions.

The ministry of Word of Life Fellowship Uganda started in 2003 and for over fifteen years of existence so much has been achieved in the area of discipleship and evangelism. The ministry has been able to carry this out through camping, short term Bible trainings, varied evangelistic events, a Bible Institute, a Christian School, leadership trainings and Bible programs (Clubs) in High schools and Universities.

Much of this ministry has largely taken place in the Kampala region. We have established ourselves more as a ministry center where for the most part people come to us and occasionally venture out to other regions. In accordance with the ministry strategy envisaged in Acts 1:8, we see Kampala as our Judea or Jerusalem and we are aware there is still plenty to do here.

We also do recognize that as a ministry placed in this country to “reach the youth of Uganda with the Gospel of Christ,” we must seek out to reach the young people of Uganda in “Samaria” and the “uttermost parts” of this country. With about 84% of Uganda’s population (according to World Population Review 2018) residing in the rural areas, it only makes sense for the ministry to morph into a movement that will have a ministry presence in the rural areas of Uganda where a majority of the population resides.

It is estimated that by 2040 (WPR) Uganda’s population will be at about 83 million with about 30 million (World Bank estimates) residing in Urban areas. That means even in twenty some years about 66% of Uganda’s population would be in rural Uganda. This scenario means two things for us:

  1. We must position ourselves to strategically minister to the growing Urban population.
  2. We must also come up with strategy to reach out to the majority of the population found in rural Uganda.

Reaching the two constituents mentioned above would require that we put the following into consideration:

  1. That the two (Rural and Urban Uganda) will require different approaches in which we carry out evangelism and discipleship. Rural Uganda may need radically a different approach and mindset to carrying out Evangelism and discipleship.
  2. Will necessitate the ministry to morph from a ministry center to a ministry movement. To move from a uni-location based ministry to a multi-location ministry through developing people who shall “Go” out to reach people within their context.
  3. Strategic partnerships that would help us to effectively carry out Evangelism and Discipleship in multiple locations must be developed and enhanced.
  4. The home base (Kampala) ministries must be run and enhanced so as to position the home base as training center of excellence.
  5. Leadership identification, training and engagement must be an integral part of this ministry strategy.

Biblical Principles for Mission GO1:8

  • Matthew 28:19-20“Go ye therefore…”
  • Acts 1:8“…ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.”
  • 2 Timothy 2:2“…the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also.”

Philosophy

Since the biblical mandate for is to go and make disciples of all men in all places while training them to obey and train others to replicate the same, then we shall commit ourselves to the following:

  • Going out to all regions of Uganda with the gospel.
  • Carrying out discipleship programs with the goal of making obedient disciples.
  • Train leaders who will train others to repeat the above two.

Purpose

The purpose of Mission Go1:8 is to help build and strengthen the church of Jesus Christ in all regions of Uganda through equipping it for Biblically sound and effective Evangelism and discipleship.
